Leitchfield, KY, and Brookings, SD. Job Description Summary The
Supervisor, Quality Control is responsible for coordinating all
laboratory activities on site. Bringing together their managerial
skills, knowledge of food safety, lab procedures, employee safety
and environment to ensure the laboratory operates smoothly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Inspirationally lead and
develop the lab team. Conducts regular staff meetings and team
building. Demonstrate a passion for the safety-first mindset-both
employee safety and food safety. Evaluate current lab processes,
procedures, work instructions and test methods. Propose solutions
for continual improvements in the lab in relation to quality
control systems and via analysis of results. Set vision for
department, following up on both short- and long-term objectives
for their self and team. Manage reporting daily results of micro
and analytical testing to daily production meeting. Approve,
manage, and evaluate training of lab personnel to ensure
understanding and compliance to applicable standards. Develop lab
training sessions and lab work instructions for the plant related
processes. Evaluate lab employees' competency based on lab
requirements as related to their job and teach them new skills
through on-the-job training and Quality policies and procedures.
Manage, monitor, and maintain the laboratory databases; develop,
maintain, and review quality control charts; share with technology
team to prepare or review the preparation of control limits,
detection limits, and action levels for laboratory analyses.
Establish, coordinate, and monitor the laboratory program; work
closely with QC team to plan, schedule, and implement QC related
activities. Manage departmental budget, labor cost and timekeeping.
Inform Quality Management on lab testing nonconformances. Apply
technical skills and knowledge of applicable internal and external
guidelines to help improve methods, policies, procedures. Ensure
proper headcount to support departmental objectives. Work in
conjunction with the Analyst, Quality Assurance and Regulatory
Affairs and/or Manager, Quality and Regulatory Affairs to manage
the quality of incoming raw materials. Ensure all lab supplies and
inventory are ordered and maintained to meet current test
turnaround times for finished products. Perform statistical
calculations relating to test data. Enter and teach entry of test
data into the SAP Quartz module, Excel spreadsheets and Monthly
Quality Summary. Modify Quartz UDS as needed to match plant control
plan for Mini Baby Bel and Laughing Cow products. Oversee data
entry into Quartz module. Provide back-up to Analyst, Quality
Assurance and Regulatory Affairs and Sr. Manager, Quality and
Regulatory Affairs Positions as needed. Obtains certification for
and perform both internal and supplier audits. Participate in
facility GMP audits. Define and follow all Good Laboratory
practices, clean up and housekeeping procedures. Comply with all
quality, safety, and work-rule requirements. Oversee weekly 5S
audits and sanitation in the laboratory for timely completion.
Monitor lab data trends for continual improvement activities,
corrective action, and proficiency performance. Participates as
member of IMS (Integrated Management System) team, is an and
advocate for employee safety, food safety, quality, environment
sustainability. Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices as stated
within the policy. Follow all Safety Rules and procedures by
working safely and ensuring safety of others. Follow all food
safety procedures. Follow all sanitation procedures and work
instructions. Follow all environmental protocols as applicable to
job to prevent pollution to air, land or water. Follow all
continuous improvement actions and rules and best practices.
Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Competencies Preferred education generally
equivalent to a college degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food
Science or related field. Ability to acquire State, HACCP, Auditor
and PCQI certifications to perform all QA Laboratory testing
procedures and IMS team member responsibilities. Strongly prefer 1
to 3 years' experience in laboratory testing techniques in a dairy
and/or food processing environment. Specific competencies required:
Must be knowledgeable of food, milk, dairy, and cheese specific
test methods and techniques. Must be very familiar with
microbiology and testing techniques as related to food. If not
familiar with these techniques, person must be comfortable to learn
these informal and non-formal settings. Must demonstrate leadership
ability in managing direct reports, exercise disciplinary measures,
and coordinate lab coverage as daily workload demands. Must be able
to train and evaluate Lab Technicians to perform daily testing
tasks in milk, analytical, micro, and miscellaneous laboratory
tasks as assigned. Ability to read, understand and implement
laboratory procedures. Ability to function as a team member and
contribute to group goals. Ability to operate a variety of office
and laboratory equipment such as a personal computer, texture
analyzer, incubator, PH meters, salt analyzer, scales, slide box
and hot air oven. Requires good knowledge of testing procedures and
documentation techniques. Requires excellent interpersonal and
written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent
project management skills. Good judgment concerning communications,
managing employees, and managing the lab activities. Lean
manufacturing experience a plus. Performance Expectations

objectives of the department. Physical Demands The physical demands
described here are representative of those that must be met by an
employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this
job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is
frequently required to use hands to touch objects or controls. The
employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, reach above
shoulders, taste and/or smell, or talk and/or hear. The employee
must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and must
occasionally lift up to 25 pounds collecting samples and performing
laboratory tests. Specific vision requirements of this job include
close vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception,
and the ability to adjust focus. Working Conditions Work is
performed in an office and manufacturing environment. Hours of work
will generally be during regular business hours with at least 40
hours a week. At times there will be some variation in work hours
due to special projects, deadlines and other concerns. Employee is
required to frequently stand and walk through the plant and is
required to inspect equipment. All safety and quality guidelines
must be adhered to when working in the plant. The employee
occasionally works in proximity to fumes or air-born particles,
toxic or caustic chemicals, and in non-weather related extreme
cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
