Job Description:
Position Summary: The Plastic Injection Molding Metrologist is
responsible for performing precision measurements and inspections
of injection-molded components to ensure compliance with
engineering specifications and quality standards. This role
supports new mold qualifications, production part approvals, and
continuous improvement initiatives by utilizing advanced metrology
equipment and techniques. This position will work 2nd shift -
2:00pm - 10:30pm CT. Key Responsibilities: Conduct inspections of
plastic injection-molded parts using precision instruments
(calipers, micrometers, indicators, CMM, or OGP) and vision
measurement systems. Perform First Article Inspections (FAIs), Gage
R&R studies, capability studies, and PPAP documentation for new
molds and production parts. Interpret engineering drawings and
GD&T requirements to verify dimensional accuracy. Operate and
maintain CMMs, optical comparators, and vision systems for
high-precision measurements. Prepare and maintain inspection
reports, quality documentation, and statistical analysis using
tools like Excel and Minitab. Collaborate with Engineering and
Quality teams to resolve dimensional issues and optimize processes.
Ensure compliance with ISO 13485, ISO 9001, and other applicable
standards. Train and mentor quality personnel on metrology best
practices. Support troubleshooting and continuous improvement
initiatives related to measurement and quality control. Education,
Experience and Skills: AS or BS in Mechanical Engineering,
Engineering Technology, or related field preferred. Certified
Mechanical Inspector or Certified Quality Engineer is a plus. 3
years in metrology or quality inspection within a plastic injection
molding environment. Must have Hexagon PCDMIS programming
experience. Zone3 OGP Smartscope programming experience. Hands-on
experience with precision measurement instruments and vision
systems. Keyence IM1800 programming is a plus. Strong knowledge of
GD&T and blueprint reading. Excellent attention to detail and
problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and in a team
environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word,
Outlook); familiarity with statistical software (Minitab)
preferred. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up & carry up to
30 lbs. occasionally. Comfortable working in a manufacturing
environment. Requires frequent stationary position for extended
periods sitting at computer or at measuring equipment. Compensation
