Job Description POSITION SUMMARYThe Science, Engineering, Analysis and Technology (SEATech) Manager is responsible for managing early stage design, bid and proposal efforts, technology development and research efforts within FMM.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESAs head of the SEATech group, responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:General Group Oversight

  • As CETech is a new group, planning development and growth strategy for the group, including identifying position needs, recruiting etc. necessary.
  • Ultimate responsibility for budget/schedule of the group.
  • Mentoring engineers/staff, including developing a deputy.
  • Identification and development of training necessary for members of the group.
  • Performance evaluation of group members, including yearly goal development and career planning
  • Identify opportunities for training in science and technology across the full engineering department and assist in facilitating such training.Early State Design
    • Oversee concept/basic design efforts, including work in both internal and subcontracted.
    • Develop strategic vision for team development and outsourcing.Bid and Proposal Efforts
      • Identification of opportunities for involvement for new work.
      • Maintain/develop close relationships with customers, in both commercial and defense sectors.
      • Work closely with business development to coordinate strategy and efforts.Technology Development
        • Technologies relevant to engineering and production are ever changing and identification, development, training and implementation is key to success and falls within this position
        • Identify partners, funding sources, and facilitate evaluation and application of new technologies
        • Coordination of Research & Innovation (R&I) efforts with organization, Corporate and Naval Vessel Business UnitResearch
          • Identify opportunities for external funding (such as DARPA, ONR, MANTECH, NSRP, etc.).
          • Establish relationships with appropriate counterparts within funding organizations to help encourage opportunities.
          • Develop proposals, and manage activities as they are awarded, including subcontractor management, group building/development, and strategic planning.
          • Develop appropriate business cases for internally funded research projects as they arise.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.             • A successful candidate must have as a minimum of a B.S. degree, preferably in engineering or physical sciences.
            • A minimum of 15 years of related applicable experience, shipbuilding experience is a plus.
            • A past history of leading/managing engineers and planning/executing engineering work required.
            • Both defense and commercial shipbuilding and ship design experience required.
            • Familiarity with government funded research programs and a past history of involvement in them is preferred.SKILLS:
            • Must have strong communication, organization and time management skills.
            • Leadership, mentoring and general management skills are a must.
            • Strategic thinking, both short term and long term.COMPETENCIES: SPARC
