WHO WE ARE:

The Aging and Disability Resource Center of Central Wisconsin (ADRC-CW) is a regional organization serving older and disabled adults in the four-county region of Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, and Wood Counties. Services provided include information and assistance, options counseling, enrollment into publicly-funded long-term care programs, benefits counseling, elderly nutrition program, caregiver support, healthy living programs, and other services that are integrated to meet the mission of the ADRC-CW.

The mission of the ADRC-CW is to promote choice and independence through personalized education, advocacy, and access to services that prevent, delay, and lessen the impact of aging and disabilities in the lives of adults.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Part-time (30 hours/week) employee will operate a catering vehicle to deliver meals to homebound older adults throughout Marathon County. Normal hours of work are generally 8:45 am to 2:45 pm, Monday through Friday. Start and end time may vary somewhat due to a variety of circumstances. Position is based in the Wausau Aging & Disability Resource Center-CW office.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school graduation or equivalent and some paid delivery experience preferred. Experience in food service desirable. Serving Safe Food Training will be provided. Must have a valid driver's license and a driving record that meets County standards.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Maintains daily operations, cleanliness, and standards of food safety for senior nutrition program services.
  • Drives catering vehicle over designated routes throughout Marathon County within a fixed time schedule to transport meals.
  • Assists with packaging meals as needed; loads packaged meals into vehicle; delivers meals to homebound older adults throughout rural areas of Marathon County.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive work culture that fosters excellent customer service and teamwork.
  • Follows proper food safety and sanitation procedures; assures catering vehicle compartments are at appropriate temperatures and are clean and sanitized to maintain food safety.
  • Assures food and meal temperatures are maintained according to safe food handling standards.
  • Documents proper meal service records daily.
  • Maintains temperature logs for food and holding equipment.
  • Records mileage and hours worked.
  • Performs limited daily vehicle maintenance such as checks of oil, tire pressure, transmission fluids; completes safety checklist. Washes and cleans catering vehicle. Alerts supervisor to mechanical problems with catering vehicle, and arranges vehicle maintenance & repair with local automotive shop.
  • Maintains regular communication with other appropriate nutrition and ADRC-CW staff regarding observable changes in health and safety status of Meals on Wheels participants, change in service, or other problems. Refers specific concerns about consumers to supervisor or other ADRC-CW staff as needed.
  • Gives input regarding the addition of new customers to existing or new delivery routes in collaboration with the nutrition and support services team.
  • Alerts supervisor to changes in service, problems, unusual circumstances, and/or areas needing improvement. Formulates and makes recommendations to address issues/concerns.
  • Works closely with the Nutrition Program Director and other partners as appropriate to recommend new or improved models for service improvements.
  • Communicates with support services team regarding meal and supply orders.
  • Provides backup coverage in the kitchen as needed.
  • Occasionally delivers food and supplies between caterer, meal sites, and office.
  • Understands the County's and department's mission, core values/trauma informed care principles, plans, and priorities for the future.
  • Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds and transport with use of a cart.
  • Knowledge of programs and services available to elderly and disabled through the Aging & Disability Resource Center.
  • Ability to meet physical demands required when transporting Meals on Wheels deliveries.
  • Ability to learn geographic areas of Marathon County for delivery of meals.
  • Ability to learn the safe and proper operation of a catering vehicle and safe food handling.
  • Knowledge of geographic locations within service area--residents, housing, demographic patterns, etc.
  • Skill in utilizing good hygiene and food safety procedures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of participants and other areas of employment.
  • Skill in planning and organizing work effectively.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to be flexible and demonstrate a positive attitude about problem solving and implementing operational changes.
  • Ability to relate well and cooperate with co-workers, volunteers, customers, and community partners. Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with senior citizens, including the frail and chronically ill elderly, family members, and caregivers.
  • Skill in completing records promptly and accurately.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive work culture that fosters excellent customer service and teamwork.
  • Ability to cooperate with people and communicate effectively in person, by phone, and in writing with a variety of groups and individuals.

COMPENSATION:

Starting salary: $13.45/hr

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

Selection of the successful candidate may be made by assessment of experience and education, criminal record check, oral interview; review of references, written background inventory, and other appropriate job-related selection procedures. The final selected candidate must satisfactorily complete a back and medical exam. All applicants will be notified as to the status of their application.
